Ken is an Architect, Assistant Clinical Professor, and the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Architecture in the School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation.
Ken teaches across the UMD Architecture curriculum in courses related to design thinking and making, visual representation, foundational design studio and graduate design studio. He continues to experiment with visual communication strategies that promote mixed-media drawing techniques in both practice and academia.
Recently he has presented research on these topics at the National Conference for the Beginning Design Student (NCBDS) at NC State and Louisiana Tech. Ken is part of a UMD research team working on an archaeological publication about Aperlae, Türkiye, to be published in 2025. Additionally, in 2025 Ken was awarded a Do Good Grant by the University of Maryland to research and construct modular structures for the Design & Democracy Initiative, which explores student voter engagement on campus.
In practice, Ken has recently focused on crafting residential architecture that integrates sustainable, site-specific strategies at a human scale at Gardner Architects. Prior to this, Ken spent five years designing affordable housing for urban communities in the DC area at Soto, including the first affordable assisted living in southeast DC. Ken has instructed design studios in The George Washington University’s Interior Architecture program, as well as a community analysis seminar at the University of the District of Columbia. He holds a Master of Architecture & Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Maryland.
