VIRTUAL DESIGN STUDIO:
UMD SUMMER 2020

Where: University of Maryland
Course: ARCH400 Studio I
When:
Summer 2020
Role: Instructor

Students study building precedents through diagramming and create abstract compositions in order to test those universal design concepts, and test fits for the given site in an exploratory manner. Later projects focus on place-making with the design of an urban infill garden. At the core of this garden is a small art gallery, which is the experiential anchor for the garden sequence and the focus for the final review. The gallery can be thought of as a three part program: a place for making art, a place for displaying art + utility areas.

This course was re-designed from a typical 15 week in-person delivery, to a 9 week virtual course for the first time in Summer 2020.
